Pelni Limits Passengers for Lebaran This Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned sea transportation company, PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni), will limit the number of passengers during the Lebaran homecoming this year as instructed by Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan.
"The number of passengers must not surpass the capacity of the ship," said Pelni director Sulistyo Wimbo Hardjito.
Sulistyo however, did not specify the limit of the number of passengers. The restriction will be in accordance with government regulation. "There is no decision yet regarding the [number] of the limitation," Sulistyo said.
Sulistyo predicted that for this year's Lebaran, the number of passengers on Pelni ships will decrease by five to ten percent.
According to Sulistyo, preparation of ships for homecoming is one month before Lebaran, which is different from one week before Lebaran for planes and three months before Lebaran for trains.
Pelni will prepare 25 passenger ships to transport homecomers. The ships consist of eight ships with a capacity of 2,000 passengers, nine ships with a capacity of 1,000 passengers, three ships with a capacity of 500 passengers, one ship with a capacity of 3,000 passengers, three ro-ro ships and one jetliner ship.
