TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Wuryanto said that the Army was ready to tackle the growth of ISIS movement in Indonesia and help the government prevent ISIS from recruiting people.

“Their most tempting recruitment pattern is money because ISIS can give a monthly salary of Rp50-150 million for their sympathizers,” said Wuryanto on Monday.

As a result, he said, many people from middle to lower class were tempted to join ISIS. He added albeit coming from a low education background, these people would still be useful for ISIS. Wuryanto said the Army also maintaned vigilance against the possibility of ISIS recruiting its soldiers, given that they were educated and possessed military skills.

“ISIS is fighting against the coalition, so they are now targeting those who can fight in a war,” he said.

Therefore, the Army are disseminating information about the danger of ISIS. First, he said, the Army would inform all of their soldiers, then the soldiers would spread the information to the public. “Thankfully, no soldiers have been recruited by ISIS,” said Wuryanto.
