TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Nur Ali arrived Tuesday at Wijayapura ferry port in Cilacap, Central Java, together with Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office head Adi Toegarisman to inspect the readiness of the firing squad tasked to execute nine drug convicts and the executions’ preparations on the island of Nusakambangan.
Nur Ali said the firing squad—comprising personnel 14 times the number of the condemned convicts as ordered by the law—had arrived on the island.
“The National Police were ready when the prosecutor’s office told us the number of those to be executed,” he said.
Presently, some 1,200 police personnel, supported by the Armed Forces, are securing the prison island. Adi said according to plans the inmates would be executed at Tunggal Panaluhan firing range.
“Everything is ready. But we cannot reveal the time,” he said.
Earlier, 12 ambulances were seen entering the crossing port—nine of them carrying coffins.
