TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Swiss postal service, Swiss Post, is going to try drone delivery for the first time using drone from Matternet, a company working on drone-based delivery system. Called ONE, the drone is Matternet’s first drone that can carry up to 1 kilogram load over 20 kilometer distance.
Because of its load limit, the drone is expected to deliver light items such as medicines and documents. Matternet had tested the drone in Haiti where it delivered medicines and supplies tothe unreachable areas.
“Our product is vertically integrated into a complete transportation solution. Swiss Post comes to us, we supply them all the technology (drones, landing pads, batteries, charging stations, cloud software) and they just focus on operations,” said Andreas Raptopoulos as quoted by Techhrunch.
By sending a drone – or a few drones – into sparsely-populated areas, you can create a flying postal service that is autonomous, safe, and speedy.
“It’s an exciting time,” said Raptopoulos.
