Kalla Denies Foreign Intervention in Death Penalty Execution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla denied the allegation that the delay on the execution of French national Serge Areski Atloui was caused by foreign intervention. Kalla asserted that the delay was due to unfinished legal processes.
Kalla said that the government will remain firm on its decision and will abide by the prevailing laws. In addition Kalla said that it is normal if a foreign country expressed a complaint on the execution of its citizen. However, Kalla assured that the complaint will not affect the government's stance on law enforcement.
The second wave of execution, planned to be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, was initially said to include 10 death row convicts, including Serge. However, it was later revealed that Serge will not be executed along with the rest of the convicts on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, French President Francois Hollande, strongly disagreed with the Indonesian government and threatened to pull his ambassador from Indonesia. Hollande further added that he will consider cancelling the cooperation with Indonesia that has been establishment on the latest G20 Summit.
