TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police's Special Detachment (Densus) 88 has arrested Basri, a cleric in Makassar, South Sulawesi, for allegedly having a connection with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Basri was arrested in front of a drug store on Jalan Manuruki, Makassar, South Sulawesi on Friday, 24 April 2014 at 9:30am.
At least 12 Densus 88 personnel caught Basri when he was buying vegetables.
Basri was suspected of having a link with a terrorist network and having recruited ISIS members in Makassar.
Anton, Chief of South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi Police on Friday confirmed the arrest. He also said that the police received information on the arrest of Basri directly from Densus 88.
It is also reported that Basri has so far been known as a cleric with a radical view and to have recruited ISIS members in Makassar.
