Awaiting Execution, 5 Foreign Ambassadors Head to Nusakambangan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said it will continue to attempt to rescue two of its citizens who face execution, namely Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. Today, ambassador and representative of Australia in Indonesia will head to Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap to meet with prosecutors and the Bali Nine Duo death row convicts.

"We continue to make our position clear. There is always hope as long as there is life," said Abbott to reporters.

Earlier, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has been trying to negotiate with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi. However, the communication madefrom France was rejected on the grounds that currently Indonesia is still busy in hosting the Asian-African Conference.

Legal counsel and family members of Bali Nine Duo also came to Indonesia today. They will try to file a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court to cancel the execution which reportedly waited 72 hours notice of the Attorney General Prasetyo.

Not only Australia, four other foreign ambassadors whose citizens included in the list of the second phase execution gathered in Cilacap, namely the Philippines, Brazil, Nigeria, and France. Representatives from all countries will have a report on the readiness of execution after a death row inmate Mary Jane Veloso was transferred to Penitentiary Nusakambangan, last Friday.

At this time, the Attorney General is still waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court about filing Reconsideration of death row from Indonesia, Zainal Abidin. The verdict is expected to be out on Monday next week.
