TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti said he initially planned to install Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as his second-in-command on Thursday, yet finally decided to do it on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, allowing for his frantic schedule for Thursday, which included attending the Asian-African parliamentary conference at the House complex in Senayan, South Jakarta.
“I thought I had the time, so I did it earlier,” he said at the parliament complex on Thursday, April 23, 2015.
Badrodin said the ongoing Asian-African summit was taking much of his time, forcing him to commute from Bandung to Jakarta to Bandung for a few days. He said there were only two options of days on which he could install Budi: either Thursday or Monday next week.
“But the 60th commemoration of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) has prompted me to have a deputy immediately, because I will spend most of my time on the ground. This is urgent,” he said.
Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan was installed as the National Police deputy chief at the National Police Main Meeting Room in a quiet ceremony that seemed impromptu and restricted—an allegation Badrodin immediately dismissed.
“Why should it be done covertly? Everybody knew about it,” he said.
