Asian-African Parliamentary Conference to Discuss Palestine

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – House speaker Setya Novanto said the Asian-African Parliamentary Conference held at the House complex in Senayan on Thursday, April 23, 2014 would produce a parliamentary forum declaration supporting policies resulting from the Asian-African Conference (AAC).
“Besides discussing Palestinian independence, we also will also talk about issues pertaining to sustainable development,” he said.
Setya said 36 representatives of Asian-African nations were scheduled to attend the parliamentary conference, 11 of whom were parliament speakers. “We hope this Asian-African parliamentary forum can take place every year. There is already a host for next year,” House deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah said.
Besides Asian-African delegates, a number of ministers also arrived at the House compound, among them Culture and Primary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan and Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Ferry Mursyidan Baldan.
Keynote speakers in the parliamentary conference include President Joko Widodo and former president Yudhoyono. Among the topics for discussions were Palestinian independence and inter-parliament cooperation.
