Don't Give Space for Terrorism to Grow: Shinzo Abe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Japanese Prime Minister has invited Asian-African nations to unite against terrorism, which he said had become a global problem.
“Don’t give any space for terrorism to grow. We have to display this strong unity to the world,” he told Asian-African leaders in his remarks at the opening of the Asian-African summit at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
Abe said peace was the foundation of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) 60 years ago, and that many Asian-African countries had felt the call to cement Asian-African ties in a bid to secure global peace.
“Peace is in keeping with the principles we agreed on in Bandung. To Japan, countries in Asia and Africa are our partners to grow together,” Abe said.
Abe also promoted the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) that would be held again next year. Through this event, he said, Japan hoped to clinch cooperation in the energy sector with African countries.
Closing his speech, Abe quoted then Indonesian president Soekarno when opening the 1955 AAC, “What’s wrong with diversity, if there’s still a will for unity?”
