TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has offered a 30-acre place in Muara Angke, North Jakarta to compensate the reclamation of 17 islands in Jakarta Bay as a part of the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development. She suggested that Jakarta can build reservoir on it, so that the city has water absorbance area.
For that matter, Minister Susi has met Jakarta Governor, Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama, in his office. She then questioned the permit of reclamation project, which was supposed to be from the ministry. Susi underlined the importance of reclamation not damaging ecosystem.
Ahok responded and said that the permit needs only his approval, and that he will coordinate with the ministry. The two then agreed on continuing the project, only if the compensation is equal in terms of water volume.
“Without new reservoir, Jakarta will always spell trouble when rain comes,” she said, emphasizing the need for new reservoir. Ahok approved the idea, and planned on turning the 30-acre areas as reservoir.
