TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) is preparing 15 additional trains for this year’s Idul Fitri homecoming. The 15 trains consist of seven non-subsidized economic trains, one subsidized economic train and seven business and executive-class trains.
“The schedule and purchase will be released 60 days before departure or on May 10,” said PT KAI president director Edi Sukmoro on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
The additional trains will cater to trips to Jakarta, Central Java and East Java. They will be operated for seven days before and after Idul Fitri holidays or from July 10-25. “The additional trains can carry passengers up to 18,760 a day,” said Edi.
According to Edi, there are still around 50 to 80 percent tickets for the Idul Fitri exodus, but most are for non-departure routes from Jakarta. This year, PT KAI provides 340 regular trains for Lebaran homecoming, which is predicted to fall on July 17.
