TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Newly-installed National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti said the force would convene a meeting of Rank and Promotion Council for High-ranking Officers (Wanjakti) on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
He dismissed claims that the Wanjakti had organized a meeting and approved of the appointment of Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as the next deputy chief of the National Police.
“I just arrived from Bandung. The meeting is today,” he said at the Attorney General Office (AGO) in Jakarta on Tuesday. He added all three-star police officers had been included on the list of candidates.
When asked if Budi’s ongoing legal process would affect his nomination, Badrodin said the decision lay in Wanjakti’s hands. “That will be Wanjakti’s decision to make. Who can sway them?” he said.
Earlier reports said that Badrodin had held a meeting with Wanjakti members—comprising two and three-star police generals—at the National Police headquarters on Friday afternoon, April 17, 2015. The meeting was reportedly held to agree on Budi’s nomination as the next deputy chief of the National Police.
Badrodin confirmed the news, but added that there was no decision made in the meeting due to incomplete attendance. “Irwasum (the chief of the police’s general supervision inspectorate) was in Bali yesterday, a decision cannot be made if [the attendance is] incomplete,” he said.
