TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Trisna Willy Lukman Hakim, the wife of Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, has advised wives to keep an eye on their husbands so as to keep them from committing corruption at work.
“As for me, if Pak Lukman brings something home, I always ask him about it. But he never brings anything home,” she said in her opening speech in the commemoration of Kartini Day at the Religious Affairs Ministry in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
Trisna said by keeping a close watch on their husbands income wives would distance their spouses from violating the law, including from committing corruption and receiving bribes.
She said it was crucial for wives to ask their husbands when receiving anything beyond their husbands’ financial ability—whereas most wives were inclined to be delighted when receiving gifts from their husbands.
Trisna said this sort of gifts could lead to legal problems in the future. “Thus, wives should turn down any gifts from their husbands with extraordinary values," she said. “Wives should ask their husbands where they get the thing from and where the money comes from.”
She also called on wives to avoid asking anything beyond their husbands’ financial capability, which could prompt the latter to commit unlawful acts.
“The commemoration of Kartini Day is a momentum for women to continue their husbands’ struggle,” she said.
