TEMPO.CO, Sanaa - The Indonesian Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen, has sustained a heavy damage as a result of an airstrike launched by the Saudi-led coalition on Monday, April 20, 2015. The airstrike targeted Scud missile base belonged to the missile brigade of the elite Republican Guard located in Faj Attan.
The Republican Guard has been the targeted since it has been accused of siding with the Houthis in a fight against the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
“The embassy was affected by the blast, but the bomb shards has damaged the embassy,” Muh. Khalid, in Indonesian citizen in Sanaa, said.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has condemned the bombing.
“I want to state that Indonesia condemns the bomb blast in Sanaa that occurred at 10:45a.m.,” Retno said in a press conference in Jakarta as quoted by ANTARA on Monday, April 20, 2015.
At the time the incident occurred, there were 17 Indonesians at the embassy, comprising of embassy staff and evacuation team members. Most of Indonesian citizens had been evacuated in early April, including Indonesian Ambassador to Yemen Walid Fauzi. The government has evacuated 1,981 Indonesians since last December and sent 1,973 of them back home.
