TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that the bomb attack that damaged the Indonesian Embassy in Yemen was not actually aimed at the embassy building.
"The embassy in Sanaa was not the primary target. We need to underline that," Retno said. "However, the attack has damaged the [embassy's] windows and roofs," the minister added.
Despite the attack, the embassy will continue to open to organize evacuation process, along with similar office in the city of Salala. "We only have several staffs in Sanaa to help evacuate the remaining [Indonesians] from Yemen," Retno said.
The Indonesian government strongly condemned the attack, which injured two of the embassy's staffs and an Indonesian citizen. The building is barely holding itself as the bomb that was aimed at a weapon storage of former President Abdullah Saleh explodes. Ninety percent of the embassy building was damaged because of the explosion.
During the explosion, there were 17 Indonesians reported to be inside the building, including four evacuation staffs from Jakarta, one resident, five local staffs, five migrant workers, and two students.
