Trade Minister Talks with Beer Producer

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel has spoken to representatives from Heineken, a Dutch beer company, during the World Economic Forum on East Asia (WEF-EA). Heineken is the largest share holder of PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk (MLBI), the producer of Bir Bintang.
Rachmat said that the meeting was held to discuss the recent beer restriction policy, as stated in Ministerial Regulation No. 6/2015 on Alcoholic Beverages. "We tell [Heineken] that Indonesia is regulating liquor distribution to protect the younger generations," said Rachmat.
Both Multi Bintang and Heineken responded and stated that they are obliged to meet global commitment, which includes preventing minors from having access to alcoholic ebverages. "We have stated the importance of protecting minors," said Bambang Britono one of the company delegates.
Bambang said that Heineken has had a number of programs around the globe that help prevent minors from consuming alcoholic beverages. Bambang added that Multi Bintang has also had similar program in Indonesia, such as training store employees not to sell beers to minors.
