TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government stressed the importance of discussing the Palestinian independence during the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (AAC), which will be held from April 19 to 24.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno L.P. Marsudi said than in the 1955 Bandung Conference, which pioneered the AAC, member countries got together to tackle the challenges from colonialism. After 60 years, the world is still unbalanced both in geopolitical and geoeconomic terms
"Palestinians are still unable to have their basic rights to obtain sovereignty and independence," Retno spoke in her opening speech at the Jakarta Convention Center on Monday, April 20.
Indonesia, she asserted, continues to support the Palestinian independence and the two-state solution.
Indonesia, she said, wishes to ensure than Palestine is ready and has the capacity to run as an independent state. For that purpose, it is very important for Asian and African countries to provide Palestine with support and collaboration in capacity development.
In the Palestinian declaration, AAC participating countries agreed that the most fair, lasting, and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is through the establishment of two states.
With the two-state solution, Palestine will be an independent state that is viable, democratic and able to live side by side in peace and harmony with all its neighbors.
