TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has asked the government to enforce special regulations and provide incentives for green investment during the seminar entitled “Tropical Landscape Summit: A Global Investment Opportunity” to be held on April 27 to 28, 2015.
Shinta W. Kamdani, Kadin’s deputy chairman for environment and climate change, said in a press release on Sunday, April 19, 2015, that Indonesian business owners are expecting regulations that support green economy and special incentives for green investment.
“We’re hoping the government would provide simple and real incentives when we elaborate the potential of green investment in Indonesia at the event,” Shinta said.
According to Shinta, domestic and foreign investors need supports from the government in terms of regulations. Shita said that Kadin had intensively discussed and worked with the National Development Planning Agency over environmentally-based infrastructure projects.
“However, such incentives are not available yet, despite demands from the international community. Kadin has also has taken steps to work with the World Bank and JICA to develop green infrastructures in Indonesia,” Shinta added.
Franky Sibarani, the head of Investment Coordinating Board, said the government has provided incentives for green investments.
“But [the incentives] have not been specific yet. However, green investment in Indonesia is growing by 20 percent per year,” Franky said.
