TEMPO.CO, Padang - At least 24 Indonesian university students from West Sumatra province arrived in the country after being evacuated from Yemen.
The students arrived on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at around 11pm through Minangkabau international airport in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra.
West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno was also present to welcome the students, who studied in Aden, Yemen.
Irwan said that the students who had been evacuated would remain in their hometown in West Sumatera while waiting for the condition in Yemen to improve.
"I asked the students to temporarily stay here until the condition really improves there. In their respective hometowns, they can share their knowledge through religious activities in the mosques,” Irwan said.
Asyam Hafizh (21), one of the students, expressed his happiness after meeting his family.
"Thank God we can finally arrive in Padang," he said.
