TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Depok Health Agency reported 300 tuberculosis (TB) cases found in the first quarter of this year. Depok Mayor Nur Mahmudi said the city administration will take precautions to prevent TB transmissions.
“We will take precautions for people with or without TB. We want to prove that the Central Statistics Agency had released incorrect data, as saying that there were about 2,000 TB cases in Depok,” Nur Mahmudi said in Depok on Saturday, April 18, 2015.
Nur Mahmudi revealed that the city administration will improve the capacity of and map the areas infected with TB.
Dr. Anna Rozaliani, head of the Indonesian TB Eradication Association (PPTI), said that her organization has carried out a program to visit 300 TB suspects.
“The program has been running since March 24. The data is currently recapitulated, and the number of TB suspects is still high,” Anna said.
In addition the PPTI has conducted an outreach program and mapped TB cases in each village. The city administration had also formed a youth task force to prevent and eradicate TB.
“The youth task force is the only one. This is what makes Depok different from other cities in terms of TB eradication effort,” she added.
