TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is planning to develop electronic purchasing and booking of train tickets through electronic kiosks, which were launched on March this year.
The kiosks, which resemble vending machine, are available in a number of major trains stations outside Jakarta. In Jakarta alone, electronic kiosks are only available at Gambir station and Senen station.
Bambang S Prayintno, Public Relations of PT KAI of 1 Operational Region on Friday said that the electronic kiosks serve to support the selling of train tickets and to give ease to the costumers.
To book tickets and to purchase them, costumers have to choose the date and the time of their trip. Afterwards, they must pay a certain amount of money inserted in the slot on the kiosk. As for the payment, costumers can use e-money or a debit card issued by certain banks.
To pay with cash through the machine, the machine will not accept damaged money.
Once the payment is completed, the machine will issue a receipt that contains proof of payment and a booking code.
For the operation system, KAI is cooperating with PT Finnet Indonesia, a subsidiary of PT Telkom Tbk.
However, Bambang said that although KAI has provided the electronic kiosks, costumers could still purchase tickets at the usual counters.
