TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chairman of the National Sport Committee (KONI), Tono Suratman officially hit the gong several times to open the Extraordinary Congress of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) on Saturday, April 18, at JW Marriot Hotel, Surabaya.
“Thus, the PSSI Congress officially opened,” said the presenter of the event followed by applauses from the audiences.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla was initially scheduled to open the congress but he could not attend to monitor the preparation of the Asian African Conference (AAC) Commemoration which will be held on April 19 to 24 in Jakarta and Bandung.
In his speech, Tono expressed his wish that the congress would choose candidates with high loyalty and commitment. He also hopes that the Congress will be the beginning of improvements in PSSI.
“However, people are waiting for PSSI’s positive performance. Especially with Sea Games and other competitions comes to near,” said Tono.
The Congress will elect new general chairman and deputy, as well as new executive members for the period of 2015-2019. Candidates will have to compete for the total 107 votes coming from the football clubs in Indonesian Super League, Main Division, Liga Nusantara, representatives of provincial management, representatives of women football, futsal, referee associations, football player association, and coach associations.
