TEMPO.CO, Palembang - Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan said that the construction of railroad track that connects Palembang and Jambi will commence this year.
This project is an integral part of the land transportation infrastructure acceleration program in Sumatra, next to Trans Sumatera toll road.
Jonan added that train is needed as an alternative for both public and corporate to travel. Therefore, Jonan has asked Governor of South Sumatra and Jambi to help assist the project.
"We need help on land matters and environmental study," he said.
The railroad that is going to connect Palembang-Jambi is a government’s strategy to encourage the construction of Trans Sumatra. The railroad track, connecting 375 kilometers of distance, will be of much use as a means of transportation of both natural products and passengers.
