TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf "JK" Kalla promised that the government will provide assistance and legal protection for 228 Indonesians currently on the death row in foreign countries. JK said that he had coordinated the effort with the Foreign Ministry by providing lawyers for the workers.
"The government should always help their citizens who are experiencing difficulties, whatever the difficulties are," Kalla said in a statement on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
After Siti Zaenab binti Duhri was hanged in Saudi Arabia, another Indonesian citizen that will be executed in the near future is Karni binti Medi Karsim, a resident of Brebes, Central Java.
Karni reportedly murdered a 4-year-old child back in 2012 and threatened to be executed after the family's victim refused to communicate to discuss any possibility of reducing her sentence.
According to Kalla, the Indonesian government through its embassies in several countries that has a list of Indonesian citizens waiting to be executed, will always try and monitor any development related to the sentence legal process. The President, Kalla says, will always intervene to prevent those Indonesians to be executed in the near future.
