TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry for Communications and Informations has launched a commemorartive stamp with North Korea that bears the picture of president Soekarno and Kim Il Sung, along with the images of the moth orchid and a breed of orchid known as the kimilsungia orchid.
Scores of officials from the Ministry of Communications and Informations, along with the North Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Jong Ryul, were among the attendees of the launching of the commemorative stamp in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 14, 2015.
The stamp will be circulated both in Indonesia and North Korea to commemorate the 50th year since the first planting of the kimilsungia orchid by President Soekarno when President Kim Il Sung paid a visit to Indonesia.
It is known that President Soekarno named the orchid species after President Kim Il Sung as a gesture of respect and friendship during a banquet attended by Kim Il Sung himself. Since then, the Kimilsungia Orchid Festival has been regularly held annualy in North Korea.
The Expert Staff for Technology for the Ministry of Communications and Technology, Woro Widyastuti, said that the launching of the commemorative stamp could hopefully increase and deepen the cooperation and diplomatic ties between both nations.
"Apart from honoring a historical moment, the launching of the stamp reflects the desire from both nations to intensify cooperation and deepen the existing friendship, which has so far remained on good terms," said Widyastuti.
The North Korean Ambassador also reaffirmed that the launching of the commemorative stamp would deepen that exists between both nations, which was first established by the founding fathers of both nations.
"This is a historical moment because it will drive more cooperation between both nations across more sectors. Furthermore, it is educational - not only for the existing generations, but also for the future generation as it will help inform them of the state of cooperation between both countries," said Jong Ryul.
