TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Throughout the first quarter of 2015, the Directorate General of Tax has arrested six taxpayers for not paying their taxes. Two of the total six people are still in custody while the other four have been released for settling their tax arrears.
Mekar Satria Utama, Director of Counseling and Public Relations of the Directorate General explained that the arrest was not made in relation to a crime, but merely because the respective taxpayers have failed to settle their taxes. Mekar also said that "once [the taxes] are paid, they will be immediately released."
Two of the taxpayers currently in custody are DJ from PT KSC in Palembang, with a tax debt of Rp 1.96 billion, and PH from PT GKJL in Bintan, who has Rp 1.96 billion of due taxes.
Mekar also mentioned that during the period of January 1 to March 31, 2015, three other taxpayers have also been listed to be arrested. However, the arrest was cancelled because they had settled their taxes.
