TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade minister Rachmat Gobel said that he will allow liquor sales in Bali, strictly for foreign tourists. "We are preparing the regulation," said Rachmat.
Initially, the government had planned that liquors can only be sold at Sanur and Kuta Beach, Bali. Minister Rachmat has asked liquor stores to form a cooperation, which only allows foreign adult tourists to buy the products.
Previously, Indonesian Retailers Association has asked the government to make an exception for Bali in implementing the liquor ban policy.
Rachmat said that with an exception to Sanur and Kuta Beach, the liquor ban policy will start to apply on April 16, 2015. Consequently, alcoholic beverages can no longer be sold at minimarket across Indonesia starting on that date.
