TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s double shuttlers Angga Pratama/Ricky Karanda Suwardi continue to surprise crowd at Singapore Indoor Stadium as they rolled past the world’s no. 6 Hiroyuki Endo/Kenichi Hayakawadi of Japan 21-17, 20-22 and 21-17 on Saturday. Despite being unseeded, Angga/Ricky had previously taken down the top-seeded double Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong of South Korea in two straight sets in quarter final on Friday.
“We feel so happy to reach final in the super series, to be in the TV court where all Indonesians can watch and we are sure that this is because of their prayers,” said Ricky as quoted by the official site of the Indonesian Badminton Federation (PBSI).
“Thank you for the supports and prayers. We hope we can give out the best tomorrow and win.”
Endo/Hayakawa admitted the good performance of their 41-ranked opponents.
“Angga/Ricky have a better third shot than us. That was quite a trouble for us on the court,” said Hayakawa.
Angga/Ricky are the only Indonesians left for the final battle after other Indonesians aces Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan (men’s double) and Liliyana Natsir/Tontowi Ahmad (mixed-double) were ousted in the semifinal match.
On Sunday’s final, Angga/Ricky will be facing the world’s no. 11 of China Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan who defeated Ahsan/Hendra.
