TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) chief patron Prabowo Subianto has called for the rejection of the government's planned privatization of four state-run companies (BUMN) and instructed Gerindra lawmakers in the House to nix the plans.
“I ask Gerindra to oppose BUMN privatization,” said Prabowo at the party's central executive boardl (DPP) headquarters on Wednesday. Earlier reports said the government planned to launch right issues for four of its BUMNs this year: toll road operator PT Jasa Marga, mining company PT Aneka Tambang and construction firms PT Adhi Karya and PT Waskita Karya.
“Jasa Marga only sits around and makes money. Aneka Tambang is also our natural wealth. There’s no need for privatization,” said Prabowo. “We have to reject this. The KMP must unite for Indonesia,” said Prabowo.
In response to Prabowo’s instructions, Fahri Hamzah, a House deputy speaker from the Prosperous Party (PKS)—one of the members of the Gerindra-led Red and White Coalition, said he would look into the government's plans.
“After the review is done, we can make a conclusion,” Fahri said.
