TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Jokowi said he dreamed that one day Indonesia would get the better of China and became the world’s largest exporter. Indonesia is presently listed the 12th largest exporter in the world.
“In my dreams, we can be number one with all these varied handicrafts, so let’s realize these dreams together,” he said when opening the 17th Inacraft at the Jakarta Convention Center on Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
The president said to realize these dreams craftspeople should dare expose themselves and improve their products’ quality, e.g. by hiring world-class designers. “We can hire designers from Italy, France. And we will move forward to international markets,” he said.
Jokowi said craftspeople should also work on their marketing strategies. “Markets will change each year, so we have to give ‘triggers’ to customers,” Jokowi said.
Bali has become the theme of this year’s Inacraft, which showcased Balinese decorations in all of the exhibition rooms. The Inacraft aims at transactions worth Rp127 billion this year—Rp10 billion higher than last year’s Rp117 billion.
