TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Foreign Affairs Ministry has continued evacuating thousands of Indonesians from cities of Yemen by coordinating with Indonesian representatives in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Addis Ababa.

“We’re focusing on evacuating about 45 Indonesians in Al Hudaidah and 100 others who are still trapped in the armed conflict in the city of Aden,” Muhamad Iqbal, the director for the protection of Indonesian citizens and legal entity at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, said.

The statement was made in response to a report that 262 Indonesians have been evacuated from Yaman and arrived safely in the city of Jizan, Saudi Arabia.

Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said the government would continue evacuating Indonesians from the conflict-torn nation.

“However, the condition of each extraction point is varied. Therefore, the government has prepared evacuation scenarios via land, sea or air,” Retno said.

Earlier on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, the government dispatched two teams to Yemen to accelerate the evacuation of Indonesian citizens via the city of Salala in Oman, which bordered with the eastern part of Yemen, and the city of Jizan in Saudi Arabia near the border of the western part of Yemen.

The government will also send Indonesian Air Force’s B-737 400 aircraft to the teams’ base at Salala Airport at 05.00 p.m. today from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.
