TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Amidst the decreasing trend of global oil price since the middle of last year, investment on alternative fuel in 2014 was experiencing a 17 percent increase. A study conducted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) revealed that the value of global investment on alternative energy has reached US$270 billion (around Rp. 3,375 billion).
"The struggle to reduce emission by the international community has been considered to be increasingly important," UNEP stated in its study as reported by CNN on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.
Among the largest investors in green energy are China, Brazil, India, and South Africa, which experience almost 36 percent increase in alternative energy investment.
Japan and China are the leading players in the development of solar power with an investment value of US$74.9 billion, while Europe continues to develop wind power through a US$18.8 billion worth of investment.
The study also stated that the United States has spent US$38.3 billion on its alternative energy projects, which have successfully provided the country with 103 gigawatts of electricity, a number seven percent higher compared to last year and equals to the amount of electricity generated by 158 nuclear reactors.
