TEMPO.CO, Bogor – Downpours in Puncak area on Tuesday night have caused Ciliwung River’s water level at Katulampa Dam in Bogor city, West Java, to rise by 100 cm—placing the dam on alert level three against possible flooding.
Hadi, a supervisor of the dam, said the water level climbed by 100 cm at around 9 p.m.
“The water level persisted for about an hour, and then dropped at 09:58 p.m. to 90 cm, but the status remained on alert level three.
Hadi said information on the higher water level at the dam had been conveyed to the West Java administration, the Jakarta administration, and personnel at floodgates in Depok and Manggarai to be followed-up on.
Predictions say that 113,117-cubic-liter water will flow to Jakarta’s downstream areas in 12 hours, and residents living along the banks of Ciliwung River are advised to maintain vigilance against sudden rise of water level.
Hadi said personnel at Katulampa Dam were still monitoring the water level round-the-clock, and that the water level remained at 90 cm. He added the personnel would inform related parties on developments hourly.
“The weather in Puncak area is still cloudy, we are still monitoring the water movement and we will report this every hour,” he said.
