TEMPO.CO, Kupang – The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police will deploy at least 1,025 personnel to secure the upcoming Easter celebrations in the province. The personnel comprise 175 police officers from the NTT Police, and the rest from district police stations across the province.
“We dispatch 1,025 personnel to safeguard Easter,” NTT Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Agus Santosa told Tempo on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.
He said the police would beef up security at a number of vital points, including at churches, public places and entrance points to the province, such as ports and airports.
Agus added the police would also stand guard during Easter processions that began on Thursday, April 2, 2015. “We are focusing on security in Larantuka, where the Samana Santa procession will be held.”
Agus said the police had also rolled out a series of operations, including traffic operations, to ensure that Easter celebrations in the predominantly-Christian region proceeded without a hitch.
“We have launched the operations since March 23, 2015 until today,” he said.
The police will receive assistance from members of the local Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor)’s security wing, known as Banser, in securing Easter in NTT.
