TEMPO.CO, Makassar – South and West Sulawesi Police investigators are still probing the case of a recent bomb terror targeting the office of Kompas TV Makassar branch on Jl. Pengayoman, Panakkukang district in Makassar on Monday, March 30, 2015.
“The suspected bomb terror at Kompas TV Makassar is still being investigated,” South and West Sulawesi Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Endi Sutendi told Tempo on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. “The police cannot make a conclusion yet. We will back up the Makassar Police in the investigation,” he said.
A plastic bag allegedly containing a bomb with a handwriting “To Garbage Kompas from Islamic State” was found by locals near the Kompas TV office at around 9 p.m. local time on Monday. The residents then reported their finding to the office’s security.
Kompas TV Makassar security head Gassang Daeng Kulle has confirmed the news, saying his personnel did not dare open the plastic bag, which was found around 20 meters from his office.
“I didn’t open it. I reported it to the Panakkukang Police,” he said, adding that a letter containing a threatening message to media outlets the sender deemed were against Islam was also found along with the plastic bag.
A team from the South and West Sulawesi Police’s Gegana bomb squad arrived at the scene two hours later to dispose of the bomb. The team exploded the bag twice at 11.13 p.m. and 23.23 p.m., and then took the bag’s remains to the South and West Sulawesi Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters for investigation.
