Tax Revenue Realization Only Sees 10 Percent Until March

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Finance Ministry’s tax director Sigit Prio Pramudito said that until March 27, 2015, the state has managed to collect Rp170 trillion (US$13.07 billion) in tax revenue that accounted for 10 percent of the target set at Rp 1,244 trillion (US$95.7 billion) in the Revised State Budget (APBN-P).
“The figure usually increases on the last day [of tax return form submission],” Sigit said at the Coordinating Economic Ministry on Monday, March 30, 2015.
Sigit said, the government has continued to boost the target by setting up an e-filing system for taxpayers. Currently, Sigit added, the number of e-filing users has reached about 2.1 million, which is higher than expected.
“More users will come tomorrow. Most of the users are located in Java,” he said.
The government is also seeking to implement the sunset policy to scrub tax penalties. However, the endeavor has been hampered by the absence of a legal basis. Sigit said this year’s sunset policy would be different than in 2008, when taxpayers were called on to file the tax return forms voluntarily.
This year, Sigit added, the tax directorate general asked taxpayers to complete their tax forms to be matched with the database.
“If there are any discrepancies, we will ask the taxpayers to pay the difference,” Sigit explained.
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said the tax revenue had not yet been optimized since the government was focusing on encouraging companies to return their tax forms by April 2015. After that, the government would focus on calling on all taxpayers to improve their tax forms over the last five years. Bambang hoped that the move would boost tax revenue, as well as taxpayers’ compliance.
