TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - CEO of Reforminer Institute, Komaidi Notonegoro, said that Pertamina might still cover some losses, although fuel price (premium) has increased to Rp7,300 per liter. He said that that Premium ideal price is at Rp8,200 – 8,500 per liter, assuming that Indonesia crude price is at US$52 per barrel and rupiah exchange value is at Rp12,000 per US dollar.
"If the government fails to subsidize, there must be someone covering the losses. My bet is that Pertamina is covering the loose end," he said.
However, he added that the government will be violating State-Owned Enterprise Law of letting Pertamina covering the losses. He said that that the government is considering consumers’ buying power, therefore adjusting the price.
On the other hand, Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja from the Energy and Mineral Resources Department said that Pertamina will calculate the matter with the government. "Government receives profit sharing. It can mean that Pertamina will cut down the amount of profit sharing," he said.
