TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Service Authority (OJK) has set a target to attract 50 million new customers for branchless banking in order to realize an inclusive financial system. Muliaman D. Hadad, the chairman of the OJK board said the target was expected to be achieved within four to five years since the branchless system was applied across Indonesia.
“In the branchless banking, we’re giving an opportunity for banks, as long as they are ready in terms of technology and human resources,” Muliaman said on the sidelines of the branchless banking launch in Gowa, South Sulawesi on Saturday, March 28, 2015.
According to Muliaman, there are four major banks ready to implement the branchless banking system, including Bank Mandiri, BRI, BTPN and BCA. Muliaman added that two state-owned banks and two private banks will follow next year.
Bank Mandiri president director Budi G. Sadikin said he was expecting to involve 9,000 agents in the branchless banking system to achieve 500,000 new customers across Indonesia by the end of this year.
“Ideally, there will be a customer doing transaction once a week or four times in a month with branchless banking agents,” Budi said.
Budi also hopes that there will be 300,000 to 400,000 shops in Indonesia serving as branchless banking agents.
