Twitter Takes on Indonesia's Creative Industry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Micro-blogging giant Twitter has stated its interest to collaborate with Indonesia's creative industries. Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, who is on a visit to Indonesia, said the collaboration will be carried by working with small and medium-class business partners and technology providers to collect and process information.
Costolo met with Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Jakarta Thursday, discussing ways to enhance cooperation between the social media and the government.
"Indonesia has abundant of talented creative people in digital industry," Kalla said, who suggested that Twitter can recruit Indonesian staffs and explore their talents.
Later, Costolo said, Twitter will work together with the Indonesian government facilitate the spread of information about natural disasters through social media.
Twitter will also work closely with the University of Indonesia's Faculty of Computer Science, developing a scholarship program.
Costolo said Indonesia has a rapid growing number of internet users, currently at around 50 million people. According to Twitter's statistics, that number of Indonesian Twitter users per October 2013 was 15 million, accounting for 6.5 percent its total users worldwide.
As of the fourth quarter of 2014, Twitter noted having 288 million users globally.
