TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has proposed the prices of subsidized gasoline Premium and diesel fuel, locally known as Solar, in April at Rp8,200 and Rp7,450 per liter, respectively—according to their economic prices.
Pertamina spokesman Wianda Pusponegoro said the company had extended the proposal to the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry.
“That’s our proposal for now,” Wianda told Tempo on Thursday, March 26, 2015.
She said the Rp7,450 per liter for solar had already accounted for a Rp1,000 subsidy from the government, while Premium was no longer subsidized.
Wianda said the price hike was based on the market price index and the US dollar’s strengthening against the rupiah. Wianda, however, stopped short of elaborating on both factors.
Wianda added that the final say on the price hike was in the government’s hands, and that the latter would not always agree to Pertamina’s proposal.
She explained the prices of Premium gasoline and Solar in Indonesia were comparatively lower than other countries—including than in Vietnam, which saw Premium price at Rp11,000 and Solar at Rp9,740 per liter.
