TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Supreme Court spokesperson Suhadi said the Supreme Court's panel of justices has turned down the judicial review request filed by Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, a death-row convict originated from the Philippines.
"The decision was made yesterday. The presiding justice has informed me [about the decision]," Suhadi told Tempo on Thursday, March 26, 2015.
Mary Jane is included in the waiting list of the second wave of execution. She was arrested for smuggling 2.6 kilograms of heroin through Adi Sutjipto Airport, Yogyakarta, on April 25, 2010.
On October 11, 2010, the Sleman District Court handed down a death sentence to Mary Jane. The verdict was backed by a cassation, and Marry Jane's appeal for clemency was rejected. However, it was later revealed that Mary Jane had never appealed for a judicial review.
Suhadi said that the decision to reject the appeal was made in a relatively short time by the Supreme Court's panel of justices comprising of Timur Manurung, Andi Sansan Nganro and chief justice Mohamad Saleh. Suhadi admitted that he could yet reveal the justices' consideration over the rejection.
