Observer Expresses Pessimism over Jakarta Development Target

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Enny Sri Hartat, the director of Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) said that the prolonged conflict between Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and the City Council would disrupt the city development in 2015.
“It’s March already. It means there was no realization [of government programs] in the first quarter,” Enny told Tempo on Sunday, March 22, 2015.
According to Enny, delays in the realization of development would cause the stimulus of development projection to be sluggish. Enny added that losing a quarter in developments was a huge loss since the project tender and raw material procurement would take lengthy processes.
Enny suggested that the Jakarta administration should prioritize the quality of development projects in such a short time to achieve the development target. Enny also deplored the deadlocked discussion to formulate the Jakarta Budget, causing the Jakarta Administration using the previous year’s budget. The city’s spending, Enny said, would increase annually and require additional budget to cover it.
