TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ebenezer Chapel at Harding Road, Dempsey, Singapore has witnessed various events, including British colonization of the country. The chapel, back in the 1950s was used by military officers, serving the British Army at Dempsey Hill base.
The chapel, however, has stopped functioning as a religious venue. Since 2009, the once place of horror has turned into one of the best bar and restaurant in Malaysia, the White Rabbit.
Time magazine named the place as one of the 10 things a tourists must experience when visiting Singapore, next to Singapore Botanic Garden and Geylang. The place was also awarded with the Singapore Best Dining Experience since 2009.
"The place continues to be [popular] until now," said Michael Enrico, a tourguide from the Singapore Design Week 2015.
The White Chappel refers to a chapel in the Alice in Wonderland story by Lewis Carrol. It has two entrances made of bamboo tunnel, which leads the Rabbit Hole bar. After passing the bar, visitors will arrive at the inner part of the Anglican chapel, a square space surrounded by ornamental glass.
The White Rabbit serves a variety of food cooked by the capable hands of Chef Benjamin Tan. Sauted Japanese Sea Bream, Alaskan Cream, and Crepe Suzette are three among many Western-Asian combination delicacies the restaurant has to offer, certainly a paradise for food lovers who wish to indulge their senses.
