TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Reports have surfaced that a death row convict from Ghana, Martin Anderson a.k.a Belo, will be transferred out of Batu Prison in Nusa Kambangan, to Jakarta on Wednesday evening, March 18, 2015.
According to Antara, the reason behind Martin Anderson's transfer out of Nusa Kambangan is to allow him to be present at the judicial review of his sentence at South Jakarta's District Court on Thursday, March 19, 2015.
That said, the exact time of Martin Anderson's transfer out of Batu Prison remains undisclosed for the time being.
"As of 20:15 Jakarta time, the preparation for [Martin's] transfer is still underway. Security officials from Central Java Police Mobile Brigade [BRIMOB] has arrived and are ready to escort the convict," said an unnamed, plain-clothed security officer at Nusa Kambangan.
The Head of the Correctional Division at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights Central Java's Office, Yuspahruddin, said that his authorities have received an official notification with regards to Martin Anderson's judicial review proceeding.
"The plan is that he will be transferred to Jakarta to attend the proceeding in Jakarta," said Yuspahruddin over the phone.
Martin Anderson's attorney, Casmanto Sudra, has been quoted of saying that his team has requested the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to postpone the execution of Ghanaian citizens before their judicial reviews have been completed.
"Once all avenues for appeals have been exhausted, then we would accept the court's decision to proceed with the executions," said Sudra.
According to Sudra, Martin Anderson is currently experiencing from depression as rumors proliferated that the Indonesian government plans to execute him despite the fact that his judicial review process has yet to be completed.
