TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google has opened its first branded shop in Currys PC World on London’s Tottenham Court Road.
“We’re incredibly excited to launch this space—the first of its kind anywhere in the world—in London with Currys PC World,” James Elias, UK marketing director for Google, told The Telegraph.
The store, called The Google Shop, sells various Android phones and tablets, Chromebook laptops, and Chromecast TV services.
The shop will hold tutorials showing consumers how to use the devices and demonstrates by showing off key Google apps.
This is the first time Google has opened a shop under its own name and shows how online companies are increasingly finding ways to approach customers through its physical stores, as Amazon is believed to consider opening a shop in New York.
Google previously opened a “Chromezone” in the Tottenham Court Road shop in 2011, which was then managed by Dixons, the owner of Currys PC World. Google has also opened “Androidland” shop in Australia.
However, this is the first time Google has opened a shop under its own name. It will operate as a “shop in shop” within the Currys PC Word.
Google also plans to open two more shops within the areas of Currys PC Worlds in Fulham, West London, and Thurrock, Essex.
