TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Artists in Jakarta have issued a declaration regarding their stance in battling corruption at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki, on Thursday, March 5, 2015. Irawan Karseno, Head of the Jakarta Art Council, read the declaration, which represents dozens of other artists in the "#SeniLawanKorupsi" movement.
"We want to declare an esthetic fight against the raging corruption," said Irawan. He added that the fight came up as fellow artists began to feel sorry for the current situation. "Corruption presents itself roughly and arrogantly," he said.
Irawan claimed that artists often prefer to not getting involved and rarely announce themselves as a part of a movement. "Today we assure and we will not deny our stance," he said. "This is a common fight against the systemic and ruthless corruption power," he said.
