TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott was furious and regretted Indonesia’s decision to continue the execution of two convicted Australian drug smugglers who are involved in the infamous Bali Nine drug trafficking syndicate.
"I think there are millions of Australians who feel sick to their stomachs about what's likely to happen to these two men," Abbott told Australian Broadcasting Corp radio.
The statement was made after Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran was transferred from the Kerobokan prison to Nusakambangan on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. "But the position of Australia is that we abhor drug crime but we abhor the death penalty as well."
Australia have repeatedly persuaded Indonesia to release Andrew Chan, 31, and Myuran Sukumaran, 33. Both were convicted in April 2005 when attempting to smuggle eight kilograms of heroin to Australia.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said in front of the Australian parliament yesterday that there will be reactions if both convicts are executed.
