BI: No Worries about Rupiah Weakening

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor Mirza Adityaswara, said that the weakening of the Rupiah against the US Dollar would not have an impact on the 2015 State Budget, particularly in terms of financing.
"Our State Budget system has changed since early this year, and fuel is no longer subsidized. So, if the US Dollar strengthens, the import value will not increase," Mirza said on Thursday, March 5, 2015.
Previously, Mirza explained, one of the major components that burdens the State Budget is the subsidy for fuel imports. Therefore, when the US Dollar strengthened, fuel import value increases and the government had to spend more to cover for it.
"Now, Premium has no longer an impact on the State Budget. In fact, the state revenue from oil sector will increase," he said.
On Wednesday, March 4, 2015, the rupiah interbank rate at Bank Indonesia hits Rp 13,028 per US Dollar, and today, March 5, 2015, the Rupiah plunges even further to a level of Rp 13,087 per US Dollar.
