TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo convened a meeting on Thursday, March 5, 2015, to discuss the planned construction of the Trans-Sumatera Toll Road. The president said the construction would begin by April 2015.

“The need to build Trans-Sumatera Toll Road had been reported three months ago. We will discuss it this morning,” Jokowi said at the Presidential Office on Thursday.

Jokowi explained the Trans-Sumatera Toll Road would connect cities and regencies with provinces and facilitate trans-island transportation. Jokowi also mentioned the possibility for the government to work with private companies to build the toll road.

“We’re not sure yet whether the project will be handled by state-owned companies or with help from private companies,” Jokowi said.

Attending the meeting were State-owned Enterprises (SEO) Minister Rini M. Soemarno, Agrarian Minister Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, National Development Planning Board Minister Andrinof Chaniago, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Banten Governor Rano Karno and related SEO officials.
